Anxiety and depression among the most commonly known mental health conditions that we struggle with. As a therapeutic Counsellor, when I see clients that are struggling with anxiety or depression, I do assess their nutritional health as part of my therapy. Counselling can certernaily help, however, we have to look at what are some of the factors that may be causing the anxiety or depression.

There are many other factors in the lack of nutritional health that can also cause anxiety. A combination of vitamins can help supplement the nutritional requirements the body needs including vitamins A, B6, B9, C, D and E, iron and zinc minerals as well as ashgawanda root extract, valerian root extract, theanine, magnesium and melatonin can help against fatigue, stress and anxiety. Probiotic Lactobacillus (L.) rhamnosus has also shown evidence of significantly reducing anxiety. Lavender essential oils can also be helpful for or aromatherapy for anxiety.

As someone who also struggles with depression, I have researched the causes of depression and looked at my own nutritional health. My doctor found that I had a deficiency in B12 vitamins. Lack of B12 in your body systems can cause low energy levels which can also cause depression.

Many doctors and psychiatrists may prescribe antidepressants, which may or may not work. However, they may not be looking at nutritional health as a factor that may be causing the depression. A doctor had recommended that I try St John Wort as an alternative to antidepressants. John’s wort is a flowering Hypericum perforatum plant. most commonly used for “the blues” or depression and symptoms that sometimes go along with moods such as nervousness, tiredness, poor appetite, and trouble sleeping. There is some strong scientific evidence that it is effective for mild to moderate depression., known as perforate

Studies in adults show that Omega 3 fatty acids are beneficial in the treatment of mild to moderate depression as well as Anxiety. Fish oil is a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids that can play an important role in brain function.

Preparation and the combination of what herbs are used are also important in how they are absorbed by the body are also important in how effective the herbal therapy will help you improve your mental health.

I would be happy to consult with you about herbal therapy.
